Honest Limits

Best for real, selectable tables

This tool reads the actual text in your PDF and its position on the page to rebuild rows and columns — it doesn't use image recognition. A PDF exported from a spreadsheet or a neatly formatted table works well. A scanned document, a merged-cell layout, or plain paragraphs won't produce a clean spreadsheet, because there's no real column structure (or no text at all) for it to find.

FAQ

PDF to Excel questions

How does it turn a PDF into rows and columns?

It reads the PDF's real text and each character's position on the page, groups text that sits on the same line into a row, and splits a row into columns wherever there's a gap wide enough to be a column break rather than a word space.

Will it work on any PDF?

It works best on PDFs with a genuine table laid out in neat rows and columns. Free-flowing paragraphs, merged cells, and complex layouts may not line up perfectly, and a scanned PDF (an image with no real text) has nothing to extract at all.

What if my PDF is a scanned document?

This tool needs a PDF with real text, so a plain scan won't convert. OCR PDF can read the scan and give you its text as a .txt or .docx file (English only), but it does not add a text layer to the PDF.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, and nothing is stored.
