How to Upload Your WAEC/NECO Result to JAMB CAPS (Nigeria)

Getting admitted through JAMB's Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) isn't complete until you've confirmed your O-Level result on the portal — your admission isn't considered official on CAPS until this step is done. Here's what that involves and how to prepare the file beforehand.

Why the O-Level upload matters

JAMB's CAPS system (accessed through efacility.jamb.gov.ng) requires candidates to upload their WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB result as part of confirming admission. This applies whether you sat for the exam in a single sitting or combined results from two sittings — both can be uploaded through the same process.

Preparing the result before you upload

Many JAMB-focused guide sites report that the upload should be in JPEG or PNG format and kept under roughly 50KB, along with a small upload fee (around ₦500 at the time of writing). We couldn't independently verify that exact figure directly on a jamb.gov.ng page, so treat it as commonly reported guidance rather than an official quote — the live CAPS upload screen will show the current accepted format and size at the time you use it, and is the authority to follow if it differs from what's written here.

  • Get a clear photo or scan of your WAEC/NECO/NABTEB result slip
  • Convert it to the image format the current upload screen requests
  • Reduce the image if it exceeds the size shown on the portal (see the section on small files below)
  • Double-check every subject and grade is legible before submitting

If your file won't upload

A rejected upload on CAPS is almost always a format or size mismatch. If your photo is a large JPEG straight from a phone camera, cropping it to the result slip and saving it at a smaller size is usually the fastest way to get under whatever limit the portal currently enforces, without needing to retake the photo.

For combined results from two sittings

If you're combining results from two exam sittings, follow the same preparation steps for each result slip. Some candidates find it easier to keep both as separate, clearly labeled files ready to go, since CAPS may ask for them at different points in the confirmation process.

Who does the upload

JAMB has at different times told candidates to have O-Level results uploaded at an accredited CBT centre or a JAMB office, and not to do it themselves or through a cyber café. Check the current notice on JAMB's own channels before you start. Even when a centre does the upload, you are the one who brings the file, and a clear, correctly sized image prevents a second trip.

Candidates who registered with “awaiting result” need to do this once their results are released. Until a result is on your profile, an institution cannot recommend you for admission on CAPS.

Use the result from the exam body where you can

A result printed or saved from the WAEC or NECO result checker is cleaner than a photograph of a paper slip: the text is sharp, the page is straight, and there is no shadow. If the checker gives you a PDF and the upload wants an image, PDF to JPG converts each page into a JPG. If it wants a PDF and you have a photo, JPG to PDF does the opposite.

Making a small file that is still readable

A tight size limit and a page full of subject grades pull in opposite directions. PDFAreUs does not resize or compress image files, so do this part in your phone's or computer's photo editor.

  1. Crop tightly to the result itself. Background table and empty margins waste the limited file size.
  2. Reduce the pixel dimensions, not just the quality. In Paint on Windows use Resize; on a Mac use Preview's Adjust Size.
  3. Save as JPEG and check the file's size in its properties or details.
  4. Open the saved image and read every subject and grade. If any letter is doubtful, start again from the original with slightly larger dimensions.

Check the details against your JAMB profile

  • The name on the result matches the name on your JAMB profile, in the same order
  • The examination number and year are fully visible
  • Every subject you need for your course is on the result
  • For two sittings, both results are ready and each is labelled with its year

Confirm it worked

After the upload, log in to your JAMB profile, open CAPS and look at the O-Level section. Your subjects and grades should be listed there. If the section still shows nothing after the period the centre told you to expect, go back with your payment evidence. Do not assume it went through because you were given a receipt.

Keep the image file you used and the receipt together. Institutions sometimes ask for the same result again during post-UTME screening or clearance, usually as a PDF, and you will already have a clean copy to convert.

Frequently asked questions

What format does JAMB CAPS require for the O-Level upload?

JPEG or PNG is commonly reported by JAMB-focused guide resources, but the live upload screen on efacility.jamb.gov.ng is the authoritative source for the current format and size limit at the time you apply.

Is there an upload fee?

A fee is commonly reported for this step. Check the current amount on the CAPS portal directly, since fees can change.

Can I upload results from two exam sittings?

Yes, CAPS supports combining single and split-sitting results as part of the confirmation process.

What if my upload keeps getting rejected?

Double-check the format and file size against what the current upload screen specifies, and compress the image if it's larger than the stated limit.

Can I use PDFAreUs to reduce my result image to the required size?

Not directly. Our compression tool works on PDF files, not images. Use a photo editor to crop and resize the image. Our tools help when you need to switch between PDF and JPG.
