Why job application PDFs become too large

PDF files can become large when they include scanned pages, images, certificates, portfolios, or multiple documents combined into one file. Employers usually prefer smaller files because they are easier to upload, download, and review.

How to compress your job application PDF

1. Open the PDF compressor tool.
2. Choose your resume or application PDF.
3. Wait for the compression process to finish.
4. Download the smaller PDF file.
5. Upload it to the job portal or attach it to your email.

Why job portals have PDF limits

Employers receive many applications, so smaller files are easier to store, review, and share internally. Large PDFs can also slow application systems down, which is why a portal may reject a file without much explanation.

If the PDF is still too large

• Remove pages the employer did not ask for.
• Merge only the documents requested in the job posting.
• Keep large photos, decorative graphics, and scanned pages out of your resume unless they are requested.
• Compress the final file again and check it before submitting.

Tip before submitting

After compression, always open the PDF and check that your name, contact information, work history, and formatting still look correct. Give it a simple name like FirstName-LastName-Resume.pdf so the employer can identify it at a glance.
